About the Brahmal Institute blog

This blog shares news, insights and perspectives from the Brahmal Vasudevan Institute for Sustainable Aviation at Imperial College London.
Here you will find updates on our latest research, introductions to our researchers and students, and commentary on key developments shaping the future of sustainable aviation. We also highlight events, publications and collaborations, and offer insights into how advances in technology, policy and innovation are supporting the transition to a net-zero aviation sector.
The Brahmal Vasudevan Institute for Sustainable Aviation is Imperial’s flagship cross-disciplinary research centre dedicated to enabling a net-zero aviation sector. Established in 2022 following a £25 million gift from alumnus Brahmal Vasudevan and Shanthi Kandiah, the Institute brings together expertise from across Imperial and beyond to address system-level challenges in air transport.
Our work spans the full aviation system, from aircraft design, materials and fuels to operations, regulation, policy and behavioural change. Through this blog, we aim to share that work more widely, connect with the aviation community and contribute to informed, evidence-based discussions about how aviation can become more sustainable.
