The Department of Computing Sta\ufb00 Recognition Awards recognise staff members who have made outstanding contributions above and beyond what is expected of them, that benefit the Department, its sta\ufb00 or its students, during the award period under consideration. The awards were organised every term from 2024 to 2025.<\/p>\n

\n

Award Winners, Spring Term, Jan – March 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gold:<\/strong> Jamie Willis<\/p>\n

For developing a high-quality and standardised marking system for the Design for Real People module, a module in collaboration with Royal College of Art, that greatly enhances marking process for assessors, improves students\u2019 experiences, and reduces administrative burden.<\/p>\n

Silver:<\/strong> Elena Livingston<\/p>\n

For contribution to the MSc programme through dedication and professionalism, managing a high workload for over 4,000 admissions applications, improving the administrative process via automatic reporting, as well as taking a leading role in managing examinations during the absence of line manager.<\/p>\n

Silver:<\/strong> Joanne Day<\/p>\n

For extensive user testing work for the new Great Service ATLAS system, alongside a heavy workload including both human resource research support and staff budget costing to maximise the value of research project budget for contract extension.<\/p>\n

Bronze:<\/strong> Lavinia Ghilardi<\/p>\n

For contribution in outreach and community building beyond the expectation of the postdoctoral role, in particular for coordinating volunteers, speakers and logistics for the Department’s International Women in Engineering Day Event.<\/p>\n

Bronze:<\/strong> Teresa Carbajo<\/p>\n

For consistently stepping up to support the team whenever needed and taking on additional workload, in particular during the challenging time of staff changes.<\/p>\n

Bronze:<\/strong> Thomas Lancaster<\/p>\n

For tireless organisation of undergraduate and MSc project assessments, ensuring fair, consistent and smooth assessment for hundreds of students, while proactively developing departmental practice of generative AI in project work.<\/p>\n

Bronze:<\/strong> Bridget Gundry<\/p>\n

For proactive, time-efficient and thoughtful support for travel, finance and office refurbishment, consistently going above and beyond to resolve complex issues, manage competing demands, and deliver improvements with care and a positive attitude.<\/p>\n

Team:<\/strong> Exam Team (Timothy Kimber, Rituparna Saha, Elena Livingston, Andree Lynne Clarke, Lauren Hayes-Clarke, Damian Cerase)<\/p>\n

For exceptional contribution by administering one of department\u2019s most complex and demanding processes with precision and professionalism, managing exam preparation, logistics, student adjustments, unexpected issues, marking follow-up and exam board readiness to ensure a smooth experience for staff and students.<\/p>\n

Award Winners, Autumn Term, Oct-Dec 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gold: <\/strong>Damian Crease<\/p>\n

Resolving new challenges in timetabling, including the JMC degree and oversubscribed modules. Verifying first-hand overflow room setups. Conducting timetabling modelling exercises, including for new JMC and White City spaces. Collaborating with EdTech and Imperial CTSO to deliver personalised CELCAT timetables for students for first time.<\/p>\n

Silver: <\/strong>Tolga Birdal<\/p>\n

Generosity in providing resources and expertise to the Department\u2019s new GPU cluster, benefitting research beyond his own group.<\/p>\n

Silver: <\/strong>Grazia Troiano<\/p>\n

Outstanding health and wellbeing support for a high number of students including during December exams. Showing real pride in being on campus to support students and seeking out tutors and colleagues.<\/p>\n

Bronze: <\/strong>Lucy Atthis<\/p>\n

Ensuring continuity of research group activities while academic lead was on leave with professionalism and kindness.<\/p>\n

Bronze: <\/strong>Amani El-Kholy<\/p>\n

Supporting MRes and PhD students to confidently settle in, proactively addressing challenges that may have led students to dropout.<\/p>\n

Bronze: <\/strong>Pedro Mediano<\/p>\n

Producing high-impact research and leadership at the intersection of neuroscience and computer science.<\/p>\n

Bronze: <\/strong>Nicolas Wu<\/p>\n

Leading key initiatives, including curriculum and space planning, new teaching titles and recruitment, with diligence and insight.<\/p>\n

Team: HR group, Joanne Day, Jamie Perrins, Marina Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n

Enabling the smooth management of grants, expediting job postings, and providing reliable and professional HR help to staff.<\/p>\n

Award Winners, Summer Term, May-Sep 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gold: <\/strong>Catherine Edlin Bellamy<\/p>\n

Exceptional support for PhD finance tasks including clearing backlogs, fixing system issues, cutting reimbursement times, improving PhD travel claims, quick pre-approvals for bursaries.<\/p>\n

Silver: <\/strong>Guiliano Casale<\/p>\n

Outstanding improvements to PhD admissions including building a new platform.<\/p>\n

Silver: <\/strong>Jason Bailey<\/p>\n

Pivotal in working with Central Timetabling and ICT to deliver personalised timetables for students.<\/p>\n

Bronze: <\/strong>Amani El-Kholy<\/p>\n

Outstanding emotional support for PhD students, including those that are at rock bottom.<\/p>\n

Bronze: <\/strong>Maria Valera-Espina<\/p>\n

Greatly enhancing both the academic progress and personal growth of students with timely interventions and empathy.<\/p>\n

Bronze: <\/strong>Marina Hall<\/p>\n

Providing trusted support and knowledgeable focal point during the transition to a new HoD and DOO.<\/p>\n

Bronze: <\/strong>Zaki Amin<\/p>\n

Proactively addressing issues and improving usability of EdTech systems. Supporting team Y2 Summer Term projects, providing high-quality support on EdStem and group mentoring.<\/p>\n

Team: MEng3 Industrial Placements, Chiraag Lala, Maria Valera-Espina, Nick Powell, Tom Curtin<\/strong><\/p>\n

Achieving 100% placement despite a competitive job market. Completed 20+ tutor visits when academics were unable to.<\/p>\n
