On Wednesday 11 February, early career researchers gathered in the social space of the Sir Alexander Fleming Building to explore their m\/cocktail tastes. ECRC\u2019s distinct cocktail experts \u2013 Emily Ford and Kate Slade \u2013 presented exquisite recipes (Margarita, El Diablo and Pi\u00f1a Colada) with a touch of self-interpretation. More than 30 people enjoyed mixing their drinks, without any spilling accidents in most cases&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The ECRC was established to provide an open, welcoming, inclusive, and diverse space for early-career researchers and people interested in networking within the Department of Infectious Disease and beyond. Through regular events, the ECRC builds a platform for students, technicians, postdocs, and fellows to exchange ideas and shape a vision of future career opportunities. Early career researchers may guide these events as they wish by suggesting personalities that may give an overview of particular topics, such as science or career-related topics, and general activities that enable exchange and networking. The event was accompanied by an introduction of the ECRC Committee to their work, the people involved so far and the kinds of events that will be organized this year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_699\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-699\" style=\"width: 721px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1384\" height=\"626\" class=\"wp-image-699\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/doid-staff\/files\/2026\/02\/Pic2-Doid-ECR-blog.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-699\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Ongoing conversations of early career researchers.<\/strong> Over hand-made m\/cocktails and pizza, researchers continued to exchange ideas related to career development and opportunities in the Social Space of the Sir Alexander Fleming Building on the South Kensington Campus.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The ECRC is generously supported by the Department of Infectious Disease, a Clinical Academic Training Office\u00a0(CATO) Connect Grant and FIDABIO. Events organized by the ECRC would not be possible without their financial support, which the ECRC genuinely appreciates.<\/p>\n<p>Further, the ECRC acknowledges the hard work of the Committee Members \u2013 Alex McCarthy, Goedele Maertens, Christine Hilcenko\u00a0(Chair, Secretary and Poster Design Lead), Carlota Miranda-Sol\u00e9\u00a0(Speakers Lead), Stephanie Ascough\u00a0(Treasurer), Sebald Verkuijl\u00a0(Website Lead), Joelle Mettier\u00a0(Relationships Lead), Jayanti Singh\u00a0(Social Media &amp; Marketing Lead) and Jorin Riexinger\u00a0(Fundraising Lead).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Voices about the event:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Carlota Miranda-Sole<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Carlota, if you were to be stranded on a lonely island with all ingredients for a single type of drink \u2013 what would that drink be, please?<\/p>\n<p><em>It would definitely be an Espresso Martini! It\u2019s the perfect Cocktail. You get the rich coffee flavour (which I absolutely love), the sweet, smooth touch of Kahl\u00faa, and vodka to give it that extra kick.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gabriel Ferrante<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gabriel, would you mind sharing aspects about your m\/cocktail taste that surprised you, please?<\/p>\n<p><em>The strength of the tequila and the pleasant tanginess of the lime juice with the Cointreau was lovely. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jayanti Singh<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jayanti, would you mind sharing any aspects of today\u2019s event that you enjoyed the most, please?<\/p>\n<p><em>I really enjoyed how engaging and informative the event was, especially in such a short amount of time. At the same time, with pizza slices and cocktail sips, the energy in the room was unmatched. It was the perfect balance of informative and enjoyable.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Critically, the ECRC is continuously looking for your suggestions.
