In this workshop, <b>Giulia Frezza (Imperial)<\/b> and <b>Lucy Skilbeck (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, RADA)<\/b> invite students, supervisors and anyone interested in communication and supervision to explore the relational side of their work.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on actor-training approaches, we will use fictional supervision vignettes, discussion and practical exercises to explore how voice, presence, listening and interaction shape academic relationships. We will use supervision and the PhD trajectory as concrete contexts in which these questions become particularly visible.<\/p>\n<p>Just as an actor can return to the same role while remaining responsive to what is happening in the moment, we will consider how we can become more aware of our verbal and non-verbal communication patterns while remaining responsive, authentic and connected to ourselves and others. Through the vignettes and practical exercises, participants will have opportunities to observe, experiment with and reflect on different ways of communicating and responding in academic relationships.<\/p>\n<p><b>What you will take away from this workshop:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>how to recognise and navigate common communication challenges and potential misalignments in the PhD trajectory;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>how to notice patterns in verbal and non-verbal communication, including voice, facial expression and body language;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>how to adapt communication to different roles and situations while staying connected to themselves and others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>No scientific or research content, previous acting experience or preparation is required<\/b><b>.<\/b><br \/>\nThe workshop is about mutual learning rather than finding a single \u2018correct\u2019 way to communicate.
