We are thrilled to congratulate the 2024–25 cohort of the Supporting Learning and Teaching Pathway (SLTP) on successfully completing the programme!
SLTP is one of Imperial’s Foundations in Teaching pathways, specifically designed for staff who play a vital role in supporting student learning but who may not be part of the full-time academic teaching staff. From librarians and technicians to part-time lecturers, learning support staff, and technical specialists, SLTP brings together a diverse and dynamic group of professionals who all contribute meaningfully to the student learning experience. We want to thank this year’s cohort for their reflections and participation!
Running from January to June, the programme combines face-to-face sessions, online activities, and suggested additional workshops to complement practice. Throughout the pathway, participants explore key areas such as interactive teaching, course design, assessment and feedback, inclusive education, and reflective practice—each linked to the Imperial STAR Framework and aligned with Advance HE’s Professional Standards Framework. Completion of the programme supports participants in applying for Associate Fellowship (AFHEA) and we are excited to see applications coming in from this year’s cohort, with several successfully awarded already!
Over the course of four structured sessions, this year’s cohort has:
- Developed a deeper understanding of themselves as both learners and teachers;
- Explored student learning theories and the purposes of higher education;
- Gained practical insights into course design and interactive teaching;
- Built strategies for effective feedback and inclusive practices;
- Begun to prepare their applications for Associate Fellowship.
A special shout-out goes to Dr Julie Moote from the Educational Development Unit, who led SLTP for the first time this year with care, insight, and dedication.
We’d also like to thank Dr Anne Burke Gaffney—a proud SLTP alumna—who returned to share her experience since completing SLTP many years ago and the impact it has had on her career trajectory and support of Imperial staff and students. Ann helped us award certificates to the 2024–25 participants and shared in with us, celebrating their successes.
To everyone in this year’s SLTP cohort: congratulations on your achievement and thank you for your ongoing contributions to student learning and development at Imperial. We hope this marks the beginning of many more enriching steps in your educational development journey.
