Leaders of teaching and learning from across the country debated and discussed a national framework for developing pedagogical research. The day featured a presentation on the Office for Students (OfS)-funded project \u201cMaximising Student Success through the Development of Self-Regulation\u201d, by Professor Carol Evans from the University of Birmingham. Carol identified ways to support students\u2019 ability to become independent learners, which is challenged by regulatory pressures to treat education as a service, and how to develop research-informed integrated assessment.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"109\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/education-research\/files\/2019\/10\/IMP_ML_1CS_4CP_CLEAR-SPACE-300x109.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"118\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-100\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/education-research\/files\/2019\/10\/crested-wm-full-colour-300x118.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The suite of taught programmes run by the Educational Development Unit, including the <a href=\"http:\/\/The Centre for Higher Education Research &amp; Scholarship (CHERS) hosted a one-day event on \u2018Developing Pedagogical Expertise Across Institutions\u2019. Leaders of teaching and learning from across the country debated and discussed a national framework for Developing Pedagogical Research. The day featured a presentation on the Office for Students-funded project \u201cThe Maximising Student Success through the Development of Self-Regulation\u201d, by Prof Carol Evans, University of Birmingham. Christina highlighted the methodological challenges of measuring student learning and the importance of disciplinary context. The project identified how engaging with students, as researchers, via research-based surveys and instruments and through research and support benefited student learning. The day concluded with a workshop run by Dr Camille Kandiko Howson and Carol Evans on the \u2018Future of Pedagogical Research\u2019, exploring: \u2022 REF-able pedagogical research \u2022 Key stakeholders, audience and outcomes of pedagogical research \u2022 Reward and recognition for pedagogical research \u2022 Quality, standards and ethics \u2022 Supporting and developing pedagogical research How criteria for the REF applied to pedagogical research was explored, particularly the shift in REF 2021 to allowing for impact within home institutions for pedagogical research.
