However, the extreme heatwave<br \/>\non the day led to major travel disruption so the session was moved online.<\/p>\n<p>Students were eager to learn where the Biomedical Research MRes degree might lead them,<br \/>\nand what opportunities could follow graduation and how they can make the most of their time<br \/>\nat Imperial. This created a lively and thoughtful discussion, with students asking important<br \/>\nquestions and panellists responding openly about their own experiences.<\/p>\n<p>Our panellists were all alumni of the MRes in Biomedical Research at Imperial who have<br \/>\ngone on to pursue different careers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Filip Makraduli<\/strong> \u2013 Machine Learning Engineer working in Developer Relations at<br \/>\nSuperlinked<\/li>\n<li><strong>Luis Rita<\/strong> \u2013 CEO and Co-Founder of Cycle AI, and a Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree<\/li>\n<li><strong>Natalie Owen<\/strong> \u2013 Scientific Assessor at the Medicines and Healthcare products<br \/>\nRegulatory Agency<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nieves Derqui<\/strong> \u2013 Imperial PhD candidate researching AI in health<\/li>\n<li><strong>Valentina Giunchiglia<\/strong> \u2013 Imperial postdoctoral researcher in malaria modelling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Together, the speakers spoke about their career journeys from the MRes up until the position<br \/>\nthey&#8217;re in currently. The discussion covered topics such as networking, experiences in<br \/>\nacademia versus industry, the current job market, and preparing for job and PhD interviews.<br \/>\nFeedback from the event was very positive, with students commenting that the panellists<br \/>\nspoke in detail and offered practical, helpful advice. With over 20 students attending the<br \/>\nevent, 100% of students agreed that the event was useful and 80% agreed that there were a<br \/>\ngood range of speakers.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the event was a valuable opportunity for students to explore possible career paths,<br \/>\nask questions to alumni, and see the ways this MRes can support them in their career<br \/>\ndevelopment. We are extremely grateful to all our speakers for their time and flexibility, and<br \/>\nto everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success despite the last-minute<br \/>\nchanges.
