Our talented people are the reason we\u2019re able to tackle some of the most pressing global health challenges through cutting-edge innovation.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re giving you the chance to get to know our staff a little better and learn about what motivates them in their roles, who inspires them and what they like to get up to outside of IGHI.<\/p>\n<p>Meet Roberto Fernandez Crespo, analytics fellow at our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/centre-for-health-policy\/our-work\/data-science-and-analytics\/big-data-and-analytical-unit-bdau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Data and Analytical Unit (BDAU)<\/a>. Find out more about Roberto and the variety of projects he supports.<\/p>\n<h2>What does your role involve?<\/h2>\n<p>I\u2019m an analytics fellow at the BDAU, so I get to be involved in quite a few different projects, most of which involve data analytics. When I first started this role, I worked on a report we created in collaboration with EY in which we looked at how health and human service\u00a0organisations could implement data and analytics into their day-to-day work. I also helped set up part of the analytical work that came out of IGHI\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/global-health-innovation\/what-we-do\/our-response-to-covid-19\/covid-19-behaviour-tracker\/\">COVID-19\u00a0behaviour tracker survey<\/a> and created a dashboard so people could explore the survey results.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve also collaborated with IGHI\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/patient-safety-translational-research-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NIHR Imperial Patient Safety Translational Research Centre<\/a> in a few different projects as well as with other groups at the Institute. I\u2019m lucky I get to be involved in different projects which are not always\u00a0\u2019traditionally academic\u2019.<\/p>\n<h2>What attracted you to the role?<\/h2>\n<p>The potential for real-world impact of the work done. I think IGHI is in a place that combines academia, policy and healthcare really well.<\/p>\n<h2>How would your colleagues describe you in three words?<\/h2>\n<p>After asking my colleagues (and\u00a0cherry-picking results!): analytical, collaborative,\u00a0antithetically dull.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s your biggest achievement to date \u2013 personal or professional?<\/h2>\n<p>Finishing my PhD. All PhDs are a bit of an uphill battle, but you learn lots of skills that you can apply later on. But hopefully, there will be bigger challenges in the future!<\/p>\n<h2>Who inspires you?\u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>People who fight and stand up for what is right and inspire people to change for the better. If I had to give an example of somebody recently, I would say US politician, Stacey Abrams.<\/p>\n<h2>If you had a superpower, what would it be?\u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Being able to fly would be the best power I think. You get to enjoy travelling and you don\u2019t have to deal with airlines.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s your guilty pleasure?<\/h2>\n<p>I don\u2019t believe in guilty pleasures. If you enjoy something, more power to you.
