The dozen-strong delegation worked across partnerships, research, policy, monitoring and evaluation, health purchasing, ICT, financing, and health services in Ghana.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4224\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4224\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"724\" class=\"wp-image-4224 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/ighi\/files\/2025\/04\/Ghanaian-delegation-visit-to-QEQM-_Group-1024x724.jpg\" alt=\"People stand outside Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Wing at St Mary's Hospital\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4224\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ghanian health policy makers with IGHI colleagues<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The visit to the Institute by the delegation was part of a fact-finding mission to the UK organised by the NHS Consortium for Global Health with the goal of understanding the UK health financing and payment systems. Peter Howitt, Managing Director of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/centre-for-health-policy\/#:~:text=We%20work%20on%20the%20development,health%20policies%20around%20the%20world.\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Centre for Health Policy<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, shared his expertise on NHS financing and the strengths and weaknesses of the UK model.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"none\">In addition, his presentation expatiated hospital supply and procurement decisions, which resonated with the Ghanaian delegation.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Diagnostics for antimicrobial resistance<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Discussions also covered IGHI\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fleminginitiative.org\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Fleming Initiative<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0\u2013 a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0global effort to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). As part of this international focus, the Fleming Initiative will have a global conference on diagnostics in <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ccra, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the Ghanaian capital<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> on <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">16-17 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">June<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a02025<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. This event will focus on the critical role of diagnostics in addressing AMR, with the broader goal of galvanizing a multinational consortium to drive the development of better, faster, and more affordable diagnostic tools to guide the appropriate use of antibiotics and treatments.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Cybersecurity in healthcare<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The delegation was intrigued by Policy Fellow Dr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Chris Agape Ajah\u2019s presentation on the Centre for Health Policy\u2019s recent work on cybersecurity in healthcare \u2013 especially the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/Stories\/cyber-ECHO\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">ECHO framework<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, which aims to help health systems assess and strengthen their cyber readiness. Additionally, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/about\/global\/ghana\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Imperial Global Ghana Hub,<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> which is West Africa\u2019s first research and education partnership hub established by Imperial College London in Ghana, was highlighted. The discussion demonstrated how cross-sector collaboration, grounded in academic inquiry and policy relevance, can lay the foundation for more resilient health systems.
