We can all agree that it is unacceptable that almost one in 10 patients are harmed while receiving care in the hospital. However, it is also worrying that we rely on estimates of safety levels because of the lack of comprehensive information.<\/p>\n<p>Through a combination of a review of the literature and a qualitative survey of eight organisations, this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/media\/imperial-college\/institute-of-global-health-innovation\/LHSN_Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report<\/a>\u00a0compares how health systems measure patient safety. The report of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leadinghealthsystemsnetwork.org\/\">Leading Health Systems Network<\/a> (LHSN) 2016 reviews which information sources are used and to what end. Discussed at this afternoon\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/global-health-innovation\/global-engagement\/wish-summit\/wish-summit-2016\/\">World Innovation Summit for Health<\/a> (WISH) aims to highlight ways for all care providers to improve the measurement of patient safety.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Leading Health Systems Network <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/imperialighi.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/11\/medic-214-631-733.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-794 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/imperialighi.files.wordpress.com\/2016\/11\/medic-214-631-733.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"surgery sterile gloves\" \/><\/a>Based at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/\">Imperial College London<\/a>\u00a0and in partnership with WISH, the Leading Health Systems \u00a0Network is a collaborative network of healthcare leaders and organisations dedicated to improving healthcare delivery by effectively and efficiently using available resources.
