This led to ten years working in industry before I moved to Imperial to manage the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/medicine\/research-and-impact\/facilities\/translational-research-imaging\/clinical-imaging-facility\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Clinical Imaging Facility<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">We are a small department with an MRI scanner and a PET scanner supporting research performed by the College and external groups, such as the NHS and clinical research organisations. The scanners help researchers answer questions such as how the brain functions following traumatic injury. We help the researchers to develop or refine imaging techniques to address their research questions.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Although the technologies used by the scanners are very different, they are complementary. The MRI can be used to assist many clinical diagnoses, whereas the PET scanner, which uses radioactive tracers, is mainly used for research studies, including cancer and dementia. There are numerous ways of innovating with MR images and, if the scanner is free,\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0work with the radiographer or physicist to see if I can optimise a scanning method so that we can help the researchers with their studies.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">We\u2019re a friendly and experienced team and people have said that they like working with us. We don\u2019t tell people what to do, but we can advise if they would like us to and we can help them navigate the regulations surrounding the use of PET.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">We are currently working on around 20-30 projects. Most of our projects are for the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/brain-sciences\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Department of Brain Sciences<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, but we have also worked with the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/engineering\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Faculty of Engineering<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0using MRI to investigate how joints react to pressure.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Outside working hours, I\u2019m working on getting my Advanced Driving Test which I\u2019ve wanted to do for a while. I recently acquired a telescope and so\u00a0far\u00a0I\u2019ve had fun seeing Jupiter and Saturn,\u00a0and also\u00a0some double stars!
