This included a placement at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where I published a paper. That experience was pivotal in deciding to be an immunologist.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In 2019, I joined Imperial as a research technician. I mainly characterise immune cells in different diseases<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and also now contribute to imaging within the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/nhli\/research\/research-sections\/inflammation-repair-and-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Inflammation Repair and Development<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> (IRD) Section.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Outside of the laboratory, I volunteer with organisations promoting STEM fields to under<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8211;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">represented groups, including mentoring young girls and non-binary people through the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/stemettes.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Stemettes<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and celebrating Black voices with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackinimmuno.org\/hub#:~:text=Black%20In%20Immuno%20Hub%20is,with%20the%20great%20biomedical%20ecosystem.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Black in Immuno<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Hub<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Since 2021, I have been the technician for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lloydlab.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Lloyd laboratory<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> where I teach users how to operate some imaging equipment, assist members with their experiments, and offer wider technical support and some general laboratory administration.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Now that I am working more with imaging, the most immediate impact I see are the micrographs, which are photographs or digital images taken through a microscope or a similar device.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Even outside a research context, they&#8217;re incredibly beautiful. Images like these were one of the main reasons I decided to pursue biology when I was younger, so getting to produce them myself now is very rewarding.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The values that come to mind when I think of IRD are respect and excellence. There\u2019s such a welcoming group of people with a healthy attitude to lunch \u2013 and the idea that breaking bread builds communities.\u00a0\u00a0 The group genuinely celebrates each other. Regular feedback from colleagues and peers vastly improves the quality of work we all do.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I&#8217;m looking forward to starting a Master&#8217;s in Microbiology and Immunology in the US later this year. It&#8217;ll be great to experience a different country and study what I love.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Outside of immunology, I enjoy reading comics. The visual storytelling is unparalleled, and the use of sound and movement makes it feel like I&#8217;m watching an animation rather than reading a comic. Also, I just haven&#8217;t seen the range of ideas that are in comics anywhere else.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I also like rugby, very casually.
