Alongside her leadership in teaching and programme design, she is an active researcher in analytics, operations and marketing. Her work examines how digitisation and AI transform decision-making and market outcomes across both commercial and societal domains, drawing on tools from game theory and data analytics.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Research at the heart of her practice<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Esma maintains a broad and evolving research portfolio that directly informs her teaching. Her work spans digital markets\u00a0\u2013\u00a0such as video games, online\u00a0streaming\u00a0and digital luxury products\u00a0\u2013\u00a0and analytics projects in healthcare, pharmaceuticals and the charity sector, including healthcare analytics and pharmaceutical innovation. Part of this healthcare-focused research is affiliated with the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/business-school\/faculty-research\/research-centres\/centre-health-economics-policy-innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Centre for Health Economics &amp; Policy Innovation at Imperial.<\/span><\/a><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Her current work includes projects on the economics of AI and human-AI interaction, exploring how AI reshapes markets, competitive\u00a0dynamics\u00a0and business models, as well as the broader consequences for consumers and society.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cFor me, the most interesting question is how AI is transforming the markets we participate in\u00a0\u2013\u00a0the incentives we face, the choices we make, and the outcomes that ultimately shape society.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Teaching that puts students first<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Esma\u2019s approach to teaching is rooted in inclusivity,\u00a0collaboration\u00a0and open dialogue.\u00a0She\u00a0prioritises\u00a0giving students a voice and encourages peer discussions and debates in a safe, supportive environment.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI always start my lectures by saying this is a supportive place.\u00a0Let\u2019s\u00a0discuss everything together. I want what I teach to be relevant and valuable. The best way to ensure this is to listen to the students and adapt.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Her commitment to inclusive, engaging teaching has been recognised through the Business School Teaching Award for Inclusive Teaching in 2023\/24 and the Dean\u2019s Award for Collaboration in 2025.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cMy students make me love my job. I admire how much they bring to the table with their perspectives and their creativity. They are so bright, and I learn so much from them.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2749\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2749\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" class=\"wp-image-2749 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/imperial-people\/files\/2025\/12\/Screenshot-2025-12-10-at-15.02.33-e1765527155274.png\" alt=\"A group of students dressed in graduation robes\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2749\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Esma celebrating her students&#8217; graduation<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Driving collaboration beyond the classroom<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Esma founded the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/business-school\/faculty-research\/research-centres\/gandhi-centre-inclusive-innovation\/key-initiatives\/analytics-society-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Analytics for\u00a0Society Award<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, a student-led initiative that challenges participants to use data and analytics to address societal issues, specifically targeting one or more of the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/goals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Now in its fourth year, the project has grown to include partnerships with UCL and industry bodies.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cIt is great to see students collaborate on projects that tackle real-world issues. Alumni who took part in the initiative also continue to be involved, meaning we have a\u00a0really committed\u00a0and supportive network surrounding current students who take part.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A home at Imperial<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Esma joined Imperial as a PhD student in 2013 and has grown her career\u00a0here\u00a0ever since.
