Yasmin Tukur is a Master’s student studying for an <\/span>MSc in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management<\/span><\/a> at <\/span>Imperial Business School<\/span><\/a>. After completing a master’s degree in African Studies at the University of Oxford, she chose Imperial to bring together her passion for research, entrepreneurship and real-world impact.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Spotlight on Africa <\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Yasmin has recently taken on the role of President of the <\/span>Africa Business Careers Club<\/span><\/a>, which brings together her personal, professional, academic interest in Africa. Alongside a team of fellow students, she is looking forward to shaping the vision, strategy and mission of the club this year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The club champions business innovation in Africa, organising guest speakers and events connecting students with opportunities, insights, and professional networks.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“It’s great to be that bridge and hopefully generate opportunities that have long-term impact.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yasmin is hoping to use her platform this year to promote involvement in creative industries, a sector she feels is important to be continually supported in a business context. Additionally, this year\u2019s tenure seeks to platform entrepreneurship and people who are building critical infrastructure on the continent.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A global outlook<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Yasmin was drawn to the global outlook of Imperial and Imperial Business School, in particular the global elective modules available on her course. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThese modules give you real life exposure and hands-on experience of what it means to tackle a problem through a contextual lens.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yasmin values her diverse experiences living in multiple UK cities during her studies and studying abroad in Montreal during her undergraduate degree.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI love adventure and learning from lots of different contexts. Each of those experiences were key to shaping who I am today.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A passion for culture and creativity<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

With an undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts, specialising in sustainable development and cultural studies, Yasmin\u2019s creative interests expand to the world of food, art, fashion and film. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI really love exploring London, going to exhibitions, spending time in galleries and filling my life with lots of different pockets of colour.\u201d <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For Yasmin, Black History Month is an opportunity not only to celebrate achievements and representation, but also to reflect on how representation is systemically created. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Efforts towards representation are a continued systemic effort. There is value in having a dedicated time and space for those efforts, but the deeper and more impactful value is in thinking about how those efforts can be inscribed in the everyday.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
