My goal was to bring together my clinical and research experience to deliver safe and more patient-centred care.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In 2014, I moved to the UK with a scholarship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, ready to pursue a\u00a0PhD at Imperial. I am glad to say that I didn\u2019t just find a place that allowed me to develop a PhD project and build my research profile, but one that also supported me to develop my personal and professional vision.<\/p>\n<p>As part of Imperial\u2019s innovation programmes (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/news\/185451\/innovative-finger-prick-test-could-improve\/\">Venture Catalyst Challenge<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/news\/178412\/bringing-prenatal-care-pregnant-women-living\/\">Imperial-Althea Program<\/a>me, now called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperialenterpriselab.com\/programmes\/we-innovate\/\">WE Innovate<\/a>), I co-founded a startup to improve maternal health in low-income countries, which has been internationally recognised \u2013 an old dream inspired by my experiences as a volunteer GP in low-income countries.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2017, I have been part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/global-health-innovation\/\">Institute of Global Health Innovation<\/a> (IGHI), where I currently hold a post as Research Fellow. At IGHI, my research focuses on\u00a0using electronic health records and clinical analytics to\u00a0predict high-risk and deteriorating groups, as well as excluded and underserved populations.
