The first task was getting all our existing research up and running again&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I moved to Imperial in May 2018 after 23 years at Great Ormond Street Hospital as a trainee, lecturer and then Consultant and Joint Head of the National Feeding and Eating Disorders Service.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Now as a Clinical Reader in Child Psychiatry, I spend\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">part of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">my working week<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in Central and North West London<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0NHS Trust\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0eating disorders service for children and young people and various advisory roles for the NHS<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and the rest of my week on research.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Since COVID-19 struck, I have worked as hard as ever, clinically and academically, but now it\u2019s from home. The first task was getting all our existing research up and running again, including finding new projects for BSc students and research fellows, and moving teaching, supervision and psychological testing online for our\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imaginestudy.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Imagine Study<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0looking at motivational processes in self harm and binge eating or purging.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">You\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">may\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">know that a mental health pandemic is expected in the wake of COVID-19. Average scores on mental health measures are now averaging near clinical thresholds in adults, and higher in women, BAME groups and keyworkers. Through the North West London Applied Research Collaboration, where I am\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">lead<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0for mental health and multimorbidity, we have applied for funding to look at the mental health and wellbeing of NHS and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ocial\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">are staff, and to explore whether interventions offered through workplaces help.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I\u2019ve also been involved in three survey studies about how young people have coped with<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0COVID-19 lockdown<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">:<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0The\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/participate.mqmentalhealth.org\/studies\/ccopey-young-peoples-mental-health-and-coping-styles-during-and-after-covid-19-lockdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CCopeY<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0study led by Lindsay Dewa in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the Institute for Global Health Innovation<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">;\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/child-health\/research\/population-policy-and-practice-research-and-teaching-department\/covid-19-studies\/you-cope\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">YouCope<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0study led\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">by<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0UCL<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, both looking at 16-24 year\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">olds<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and our own\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/imperial.eu.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_cMxhJxSlDJeyNE1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Kids Lockdown Eating Study<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">at Imperial,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">looking at how children and young people\u2019s eating\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">behaviours<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0changed during lockdown as a result of emotional over or undereating<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0&#8211;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0for which we are still recruiting.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Follow us at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Imperial_CAMH\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@Imperial_CAMH<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dashanicholls?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@DashaNicholls<\/a> to hear more about what we are doing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Since COVID-19 struck, I have worked as hard as ever, clinically and academically, but now it\u2019s from home.
