A few years later I switched to a\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">full-time<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0role in Acquisitions, based at the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/admin-services\/library\/use-the-library\/our-libraries\/central-library\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Central Library<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">My team identify, procure and facilitate access to a broad range of books, eBooks and case studies to support the Imperial community in their research, teaching and learning.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Acquisitions\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">come<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">via\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">direct<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0suggestions from Library users, through our Liaison Librarians,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0academics submitting reading lists for courses.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Since the beginning of lockdown, our physical libraries have been closed, with our print books unavailable. In response, the Library has been operating remote online services to continue supporting students in their learning, revision and dissertation endeavors, alongside supporting researchers and academics. The Library has always had a strong eBook collection, but lockdown has seen a 12% increase in the number of titles we can\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">access.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We\u2019ve<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0had lots of than<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">k\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">yous<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0from our students and academics \u2013 it&#8217;s always nice to know we are making a difference.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In response to C<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">OVID-19,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0many publishers and library suppliers have given free or increased access to electronic resources. Alongside other Library teams and academics I have been involved in identifying and enabling access to key e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8211;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">textbooks to support teaching and learning among the College community where previously we relied upon print only.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">More recently<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the focus within the team has very much shifted towards planning for the best student experience possible in a rapidly changing world by providing increased access to materials and digital options for 2020<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8211;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">21 reading lists. This has involved pouring over multitudinous spreadsheets and working with new suppliers to bolster the Library\u2019s electronic collections.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Acquisitions team has really pulled together during lockdown, stepping up to take on new challenges and roles as workflows have evolved due to working from home and print collections being out of bounds.
