I then moved to UCL<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Union\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">where I was the Deputy Finance Manager for\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">7 and a half years\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">before moving\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to Imperial<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in March 2009 as the first Finance manager for\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/admin-services\/library\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Library\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">S<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ervices<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I was in this post until 2014 w<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hen I was also made the Finance &amp; Facilities\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">M<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">anager \u2013 now covering finance, facilities and being the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">epartmental<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0safety person.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">As Library Safety Officer, when lockdown first\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">started<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0I made sure that the Central Library building was safe and properly closed. As Library Finance Manager, I have ensured that colleagues received the necessary equipment they need<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ed<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0to work from home. During the College closure<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0I\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">visited<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0the building several times to gather office chairs and computer equipment and arranged for\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">these<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0to be couriered to colleagues working remotely. In fact, I started this before any other department<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">and quickly identified<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0that City Sprint\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">was<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0cheaper to courier items from\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">C<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ollege<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0&#8211; this\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">was\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">later<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0adopted across Imperial.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Since the start of lockdown there have been over 160 items ordered and distributed to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">our colleagues\u2019 homes<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, as well as plentiful supplies of PPE ordered in preparation of the Library<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">re<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">opening.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">I have also\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">been part of the Library Business Continuity Group and have been in the Central Library building tak<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0measurements and photos of the building. This was necessary so that plans could be started for building re-opening with social distancing measures in place, such as signage and safety equipment.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">I feel that my colleagues and I must be doing something right during lockdown as we have had a tremendous\u00a0amount\u00a0of emails and calls thanking us and praising the support we have given. I must say that I was surprised at being nominated for Imperial People.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">At the beginning of lockdown, it was strange trying to adjust to work<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0from home with family around. Interruptions from my\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">two<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0young boys whil<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0trying to work was a little frustrating in the beginning as they were\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">xcited and happy to have me at home<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">As well as<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0being on a rota for delivering food and essentials to the vulnerable<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0in my neighbourhood during lockdown<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, I have long been\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">coordinating\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">collections and deliveries of charity goods to be sent overseas. I am a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">lso a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0keen gardener and grow a few fruit and vegetables such as carrots, beetroots, corn<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and p<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">otatoes.
