Since it is the first global standard-setting framework on Open Science, it presents an important opportunity to build equity into the foundations of new policies.<\/p>\n<p>Here at Imperial, we continue to provide advice and guidance on an ever more rapidly changing open access landscape. The last 12 months have seen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the REF 2021 submission (the next REF is scheduled for 2027. Please continue to follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/post-2021-ref\/\">REF 2021 open access policy<\/a>),<\/li>\n<li>the start of a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/research-funders-open-access-policies\/wellcome-oa-policy\/\">Wellcome Trust open access policy from 1 January 2021<\/a>,<\/li>\n<li>the announcement of a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/publications\/ukri-open-access-policy\/\">UKRI open access policy<\/a> (to apply to peer-reviewed research articles submitted for publication on or after 1 April 2022, and monograph, book chapters and edited collections published on or after 1 January 2024. More information will be available in the coming months),<\/li>\n<li>the negotiation of new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/applying-for-funding\/publisher-memberships\/\">publisher agreements and discounts<\/a>, many of which cover open access fees in full for Imperial corresponding authors with the relevant publishers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Our year in statistics<br \/>\n<\/strong>(Download statistics are from <a href=\"https:\/\/irus.jisc.ac.uk\/\">https:\/\/irus.jisc.ac.uk\/<\/a>; other statistics are from Imperial College London&#8217;s records)<\/p>\n<p><strong>85%<\/strong> of Imperial College research in 2021 is open access.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"377\" height=\"416\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2183\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/openaccess\/files\/2021\/10\/OA-pie-chart-2021.png\" alt=\"Pie chart showing breakdown of open access types for 2021.
