Sharing knowledge is a human right, and tackling the climate crisis requires the rapid exchange of knowledge across geographic, economic, and disciplinary boundaries.<\/p>\r\n<h2>12 Month Highlights<\/h2>\r\n<p>At Imperial College London, we provide advice and guidance on an ever more rapidly changing open access landscape. The last 12 months have seen:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>the successful results of our REF 2021 submission. A significant proportion of published research was made available on open access as a result of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/post-2021-ref\/\">2018 REF OA\u00a0policy<\/a> to deposit the manuscript within 3 months of acceptance into a repository.<\/li>\r\n<li>the start of a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/research-funders-open-access-policies\/ukri-oa-policy\/\">UKRI open access policy from 1 April 2022<\/a> which requires immediate open access, without any embargo, under an open licence which applies to peer-reviewed research articles submitted for publication on or after 1 April 2022. We created a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XAP7XcTkTqM\"> UKRI Open Access Policy YouTube video<\/a> to explain the workflow.<\/li>\r\n<li>the start of a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/research-funders-open-access-policies\/\">NIHR open access policy from 1 April 2022<\/a> which requires immediate open access, without any embargo under, an open licence which applies to peer-reviewed research articles submitted for publication on or after 1 April 2022<\/li>\r\n<li>for published research that is funded by UKRI, Wellcome Trust, NIHR, and Horizon Europe a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/research-funders-open-access-policies\/\">Rights Retention Statement<\/a> requirement on submissions <em>&#8220;For the purpose of open access, the author has applied a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license to any Author Accepted Manuscript version arising&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\r\n<li>the increase to 33 of new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/applying-for-funding\/publisher-memberships\/\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">publisher agreements and discounts<\/a>, many of which cover open access fees in full for Imperial corresponding authors. This includes a three-year agreement with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/applying-for-funding\/publisher-memberships\/elsevier\/\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Elsevier<\/a> the largest publisher of Imperial research<\/li>\r\n<li>the Library&#8217;s support for several publishing initiatives within Jisc\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/content\/open-access\/our-role\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">open access community framework (OACF)<\/a> 2022-24 which aims to provide financial support for innovative open access content models<\/li>\r\n<li>our first ever training session for all researchers new to Imperial covering open access and research data management (RDM)\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>the launch of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-research\/open-research-education\/\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">open research education for doctoral students<\/a> webpage that includes a roadmap for open research courses and support<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3492 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/openaccess\/files\/2022\/10\/Twitter-English-Blank-450x253.png\" alt=\"Open Access Week logos with multiple global languages\" \/><\/p>\r\n<h2>OA Week 22 Activities<\/h2>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>The upcoming Open Access Week will allow us to announce several initiatives and news items relevant to Imperial researchers and the wider community.<\/p>\r\n<p>They will include the following:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>daily <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/oaimperial\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">tweets<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/web.yammer.com\/main\/org\/ic.ac.uk\/groups\/eyJfdHlwZSI6Ikdyb3VwIiwiaWQiOiIxNTg5NjM4MyJ9\/all\">Yammer posts<\/a> highlighting statistics on OA and climate justice related publications held in <a href=\"https:\/\/spiral.imperial.ac.uk\/\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Spiral<\/a> using the hashtags <a href=\"https:\/\/web.yammer.com\/main\/org\/ic.ac.uk\/search\/threads?search=%23OpenAccessWeek\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">#OpenAccessWeek<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.yammer.com\/main\/org\/ic.ac.uk\/search\/threads?search=%23OAWeek2022\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">#OAWeek2022<\/a> and this year&#8217;s theme is <a href=\"https:\/\/web.yammer.com\/main\/org\/ic.ac.uk\/search\/threads?search=%23OpenForClimateJustice\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">#OpenForClimateJustice<\/a>.<\/li>\r\n<li>the launch of a new journal search tool for open access publisher agreements<\/li>\r\n<li>a revamped<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/applying-for-funding\/publisher-memberships\/\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\"> publisher agreements and discounts<\/a> webpage, which has also been reformatted to ease navigation as the number of agreements grows<\/li>\r\n<li>a blog post on Transformative Agreements that we have signed with publishers and includes statistics on the number of papers published\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<li>a blog post on UK negotiations with the publisher Springer Nature written by our Director of Library Services, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/people\/chris.banks\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Chris Banks<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li>a blog post on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/research-funders-open-access-policies\/\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Imperial Open Access Fund<\/a> and how many publications we support<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>In the meantime, for open access advice, guidance and updates, email <a href=\"mailto:openaccess@imperial.ac.uk\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">openaccess@imperial.ac.uk<\/a> or visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/research-and-innovation\/support-for-staff\/scholarly-communication\/open-access\/\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">open access website<\/a>.
