It&#8217;s brought to you by the Imperial <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/patient-experience-research-centre\/meet-the-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patient Experience Research Centre team<\/a>, otherwise known as PERC. Working in collaboration with\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperialbrc.nihr.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre<\/a> (BRC), we\u2019re dedicated to improving the quality and impact of healthcare and translational research by promoting and supporting active communication between patients, the public, researchers and clinical staff.<\/p>\n<p>At the centre of this is public involvement in research.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Public involvement is defined as\u00a0research carried out &#8216;<strong>with<\/strong>&#8216; or &#8216;<strong>by<\/strong>&#8216; members of the public, rather than &#8216;<strong>to<\/strong>&#8216;, &#8216;<strong>about<\/strong>&#8216; or &#8216;<strong>for<\/strong>&#8216; them<\/li>\n<li>And by \u2018public\u2019, we include patients&#8217;, patients&#8217; relatives, carers, and anyone who uses health and social care services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Public involvement is now an essential part of research strategies throughout the UK and rest of Europe.
