It prepares students to solve business problems using a variety of statistical, operations research and machine learning techniques.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What you learn in class is usually just a small part of what you end up doing in group projects and homework. There is a huge amount of good resources you can use to learn new material or enhance your knowledge in a topic. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In this blog, I wanted to share the most useful sources I found in case you\u2019re planning to pursue this program at Imperial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Before you start the program: the basics<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"363\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2987\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/student-blogs\/files\/2018\/01\/giphy-downsized.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Statistics and probability<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Start by revising your math skills in statistics and probability. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.khanacademy.org\/math\/statistics-probability\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Khan Academy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> provides a great and interactive program to refresh what you need to know before starting statistics, econometrics and machine learning. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Code, code, code<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"227\" height=\"400\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2996 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/student-blogs\/files\/2018\/01\/giphy-3.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Before you start this master\u2019s program, it is immensely useful if you can already code at least the basics in python and\/or R. Try at least doing a python and R basic course. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some useful links:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.datacamp.com\/home\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Data Camp<\/span><\/a>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is probably my favourite platform. It provides loads of short modules to learn from the basics to advanced topics in data science. They have interactive courses to start learning R and Python. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.codecademy.com\/learn\/learn-python\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CodeAcademy<\/span><\/a>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Good free courses in Python.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.codeschool.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CodeSchool<\/span><\/a>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Well prepared videos to learn to code. You can learn Python there.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Once you start the program: expand your knowledge<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2999\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/student-blogs\/files\/2018\/01\/giphy-5.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Statistics and Econometrics<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To understand the theory of different the topics covered in Statistics and \u00a0Econometrics, I would highly recommend you to watch the videos of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/SpartacanUsuals\/playlists\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ben Lambert<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on Youtube. He\u2019s great at explaining the different topics you\u2019ll be covering with examples and visualisations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other good sources are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.r-bloggers.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">R-bloggers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, \u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/uk.mathworks.com\/?s_tid=gn_logo\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MathWorks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/stats.stackexchange.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CrossValidated by StackExchange<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Machine Learning and Network Analytics<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Have a look again at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.datacamp.com\/home\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">DataCamp<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. They provide good insights into the algorithms you\u2019ll learn using R and also Python.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For everything else, make sure to have a look at the books recommended in each course and don\u2019t forget to google everything! Also search in youtube.
