Professor Alun Davies<\/a>, Professor of vascular surgery & consultant surgeon, has been elected as a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales. The Fellowship brings together experts from across all academic fields to promote research, inspire learning, provide independent policy advice and promote awareness of how the sciences and the arts, humanities and social sciences benefit society.<\/p>\n

Fellowship of the Learned Society of Wales<\/a> is open to residents of Wales, persons of Welsh birth who reside elsewhere and others with a connection with Wales. In each case, having a demonstrable record of excellence and achievement. The Fellows are all prominent figures who represent a high level of international expertise and knowledge within their respective academic disciplines and professions.<\/p>\n

Professor Davies is among 43 new fellows who were accepted in April. Speaking about his award, Prof Davies said: ‘Delighted to receive this honour from the Learned Society of Wales’.<\/p>\n

The new Fellows include academics from numerous Welsh and UK higher education institutions as well as individuals who a play a significant role in Welsh public life. The Society now has 563 distinguished Fellows who come from all branches of learning and are prominent figures within their respective academic disciplines or professions.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the new intake, Society\u2019s President, Sir Emyr Jones Parry said: \u2018I am delighted to see the election of 43 new Fellows, showing again the talent connected with Wales, which will reinforce the work of the Society, recognising excellence, promoting research and putting our expertise at the disposal of the nation\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
