The book makes you think critically about sustainability (\u2018as not all giving is equal\u2019) as well as providing a simple plan and crash course guide to sustainability terminology. Pabon talks about how to spot greenwashing and how often philanthropy is misplaced by those who are well-meaning. However, he also highlights projects that have had a real positive impact on communities and the environment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"195\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7028\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/sustainable-gas-institute\/files\/2022\/01\/Sustainability-for-the-rest-of-us-195x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pabon describes himself as a pragmatic altruist, and tells us that \u2018passion, without pragmatism, is just complaining\u2019. His book is a witty, bold, and refreshing read that makes you feel uncomfortable sometimes. However, his overall advice is solid with a strong background in sustainability at organizations such as United Nations, McKinsey, A.C. Nielsen.<\/p>\n<p>When volunteering your time, he recommends looking at donating your professional skills in an ongoing way where it is needed most. We\u2019ve got to focus on what we can do and not try to do everything at once, so we don\u2019t burn out. He also says it is useful to think like a marketer, not an activist. By this, Pabon means identifying your stakeholders and working with them to find out what the best long-term solution is.
