{"id":5375,"date":"2014-03-21T17:00:44","date_gmt":"2014-03-21T16:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/videoarchive\/?p=5375"},"modified":"2017-01-06T11:23:37","modified_gmt":"2017-01-06T10:23:37","slug":"dennis-gabor-retrospective-2000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/videoarchive\/dennis-gabor-retrospective-2000\/","title":{"rendered":"Dennis Gabor Retrospective 2000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the centenary of Dennis Garbor&#8217;s birth on 5th June 1900 we recorded this retrospective discussion between Professor Igor Aleksander and former Imperial Rector, Professor Sir Eric Ash.<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/videoarchive\/files\/2013\/11\/Gabor.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5399\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/videoarchive\/files\/2013\/11\/Gabor-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a> Eric Ash graduated from Imperial with a first class honours degree in electrical engineering in 1948 and received his doctorate four years later in 1952. His Ph.D. supervisor was Dennis Gabor, so he has first hand knowledge of the man and the research he was carrying out at that time. Eric Ash and Igor Aleksander have both been heads of Electrical Engineering Departments, Ash at University College London and Aleksander at Imperial College London. In this recording they discuss the work of Dennis Gabor that lead to him receiving the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/videoarchive\/2010\/06\/09\/nobel-laureates\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nobel Prize<\/a> in 1971 for his invention of Holography.
