Alfred Whitehead (1861-1947) and Sydney Chapman (1888-1970) were both former heads of the Mathematics Department during the 1920\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Philip Davis gave the A.N.Whitehead (photo right) Lecture entitled Mathematical Evidence.
