{"id":7895,"date":"2019-04-01T11:44:17","date_gmt":"2019-04-01T10:44:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/videoarchive\/?p=7895"},"modified":"2019-04-01T11:44:17","modified_gmt":"2019-04-01T10:44:17","slug":"constructionarium-2006","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/videoarchive\/constructionarium-2006\/","title":{"rendered":"Constructionarium: 2006"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/videoarchive\/files\/2019\/03\/Constructionarium-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7917\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/videoarchive\/files\/2019\/03\/Constructionarium-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>In June 2006 The Duke of Edinburgh put on a hard hat and boots to watch students building their own versions of engineering landmarks.<\/p>\n<p>The engineering students from Civil Engineering were taking part in Constructionarium, an annual event in which groups had just five days to tackle a challenging project, such as creating a seven metre high version of the world&#8217;s tallest vehicular bridge, the Millau viaduct in Southern France.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/videoarchive\/files\/2019\/03\/Constructionarium-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7916\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.imperial.ac.uk\/videoarchive\/files\/2019\/03\/Constructionarium-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>The event was designed to give students hands-on experience of engineering in a realistic environment. The projects took place on a two hectare section of a Norfolk site which is used for training specialist construction trade workers such as scaffolders and steeplejacks. The site, in Bircham Newton, was owned by the National Construction College.<\/p>\n<p>Prince Philip visited on the students&#8217; last day and saw the projects in their final stages. He was given a tour of the different projects underway, and watched as students pulled a replica oil rig to the middle of a lake and stabilised it.
