Celebrating a decade of Global Summer School

We’re celebrating a decade of learning, laughter and unforgettable memories at Global Summer School! To mark the occasion, we’re reflecting on ten milestones that we have achieved together with the support of our students, parents, academics, mentors and staff.

Over the past ten years…

  1. We’ve welcomed just under 3,000 students to Global Summer School so far
  2. Our academics have conducted over 1,000 hours of teaching time
  3. We’ve championed over 400 students who have gone on to study an Undergraduate degree at Imperial, averaging 60 new students joining our ranks each year
  4. Our catering staff have served more than 36,000 breakfasts
  5. We’ve celebrated with 3,000 graduates at 18 finale dinners
  6. Our students have completed approximately 375 innovation projects to solve real-world problems
  7. We’ve worked with over 600 Imperial student mentors
  8. We’ve brought together students from more than 75 nationalities
  9. We’ve witnessed an unlimited number of friendships made and endless talents discovered
  10. Our students have spent more than 500 hours exploring London, the best student city in the world

We’re so grateful to our community for the continued growth and success that we’ve been able to achieve throughout the last decade. None of this would be possible without the remarkable support from parents, academics, mentors and our staff who have been instrumental in bringing Global Summer School to life. But above all, it’s our students who have brought the energy and enthusiasm which is the secret to the programme’s success and the lifelong memories that have been made over the years.

Whether your passion lies in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, Medicine and Life Sciences, or Physics, our summer program offers a unique experience for everyone interested in a future in STEM. So, what are you waiting for? Apply now to join our tenth year and become a part of our Global Summer School legacy.

Making the most of your Global Summer School experience

Global Summer School is an incredible opportunity to experience life as a university student. Learn from Imperial academics, live in on-campus accommodation, explore the best of London and meet likeminded students from across the globe. The programme offers all this and so much more in order to enrich your academic experiences and to prepare you for university and beyond.

Attending Global Summer School? We’ve pulled together a list of tips to help you make the most of your experiences and the opportunities available to you on the programme.

  1. Immerse yourself in the university campus and student life
Experience life as a real university student at Global Summer School. You will stay in our on-campus student accommodation in South Kensington and get a taste of what it is like to live away from home during your first year of university. You’ll work with current Imperial student mentors throughout the programme who have first-hand experience living and studying in London. They’ll show you around campus, provide academic and pastoral support and can give you insight into what it’s like to be a student at Imperial.
  2. Get ahead in your academic endeavours
Experience an Imperial education when you attend Global Summer School. You’ll learn from Imperial academics and experience the College’s world-leading facilities. Depending on which subject you choose, this could include a visit to the Data Science Institute’s Data Observatory, a tour of the Aeronautical Department’s supersonic and hypersonic wind tunnels, a visit to a real clinical hospital or practical sessions in our computer suite. Through a challenging programme of lectures, seminars and practical sessions you’ll participate in more than 50 hours of teaching time giving you a real taste of what it is like to study at university.
  3. Form lifelong friendships from across the globe
We welcome more than 500 students, representing over 50 nationalities to Imperial every year. Throughout your two weeks at Global Summer School, you’ll have plenty of time to work together and socialise with peers from all subjects on the programme. It’s a great opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences and to learn from each other’s perspectives. Make the most of your time at Imperial by meeting new people and creating new networks within the STEM community. Who knows, you may end up studying at the same university as some of your new friends one day.
  4. Explore the best of London
An exciting part of our Global Summer School programme is the packed calendar of social activities. There’s a reason why London is ranked the best study city in the world*, and we do our best to show you why! The activities planned for 2024 include, a trip to see Wicked in London’s West End, a boat tour on the River Thames, a day trip to Brighton (a popular seaside town), a sightseeing bus tour of London’s best attractions, trips to the Science, Natural History and V&A Museums and much more.
