My Family Care presentations

Imperial is trialling a new service called My Family Care which provides College employees with access to emergency child and adult care. Imperial will be funding free registration to the service for all staff, which will allow them to access emergency childcare, school holiday cover and backup adult and eldercare, with individual staff paying a fee to cover care costs when the services are used. Staff will also have access to online resources providing family-related advice and information.

Representatives from My Family Care will be visiting Imperial later this month to deliver presentations in which staff can find out more about the services available. See below for presentation dates at your campus:

Revised Recruitment & Selection Procedure

The College’s Recruitment & Selection Procedure has recently been revised in order to provide more streamlined, user friendly guidance to staff involved in recruitment activities.

The revisions, which are in line with legislation and best practice principles, have been developed in consultation with colleagues from the Equality & Diversity Unit, Faculties and Support Services.

The new look web pages set out clearer requirements about each element of the recruitment process and include

a high level process summary checklist outlining responsibilities, actions and links to further guidance and templates for those who would like more information.

A further review of the recruitment templates and the academic and clinical appointments processes will take place shortly.

All staff involved in recruitment activities are expected to familiarise themselves with this procedure and to have attended a recruitment and selection training course. For advice and support on any aspect of this guidance or specific recruitment issues please contact your HR team.

National Pay Award 2013/14

Following their rejection of the Universities and Colleges Employers’ Association’s (UCEA’s) final pay offer, four of the five New Joint Negotiating Committee for Higher Education Staff (JNCHES) trades unions remain in dispute over the offer.  As the formal dispute resolution procedure has been exhausted, UCEA has advised that institutions can now implement the pay offer.

The College’s national pay scales have therefore been uprated to incorporate a rise of 1% with effect from 1 August 2013 for those staff remaining on national non-clinical rather than local pay scales. Payment at the appropriate new rates will be made in December 2013 salaries and will be backdated to 1 August 2013.

Local Pay Award 2013/14

Local Pay Bargaining takes place on an annual basis at Imperial, involving negotiations between the College and the Joint Trades Unions (JTUs).

Following the last local pay bargaining meeting on 9 July, the JTUs have confirmed their formal acceptance of the College’s local pay offer of 2% effective from 1 August 2013.

The College’s pay scales and schedules of allowances have been updated to incorporate this increase. This applies to all staff on terms and conditions subject to local pay bargaining. Payment at the appropriate new rates will be made in August 2013 salaries.

For copies of the revised scales and allowances, please view the HR Salaries web page.

To read further information from this year’s local pay bargaining negotiations, including the JTUs pay claim and the College’s responses and final pay offer, please view the HR Local Pay Award 2013/14 web page.

Staff who elected to remain on terms and conditions subject to national pay bargaining are advised that national negotiations are ongoing and the employers’ final offer of 1% has been rejected by the national trades unions.   Further information on the outcome of the national negotiations will be available in due course.
