When we came to shoot Jess at work in the lab at the amazing Diamond Light Source facility, we got more than we bargained for. Jess very kindly supplied us with some stunningly gorgeous microscope images of her research.

Jess graduated from Imperial College London in 2012 with a First class MSci in Physics before completing a PhD under the supervision of Dr Ji-Seon Kim. Jess is now a post-doc working with Professor Alisdair Campbell and Dr Matt Fuchter, on chiral organic light emitting diodes. Jess is pictured here at the incredible Diamond Light Source facility with Francesco Salerno.

Jess and her team are measuring circular dichroism – the differential absorption of left and right handed circularly polarised light – here at the B23 lab at Diamond.
They are developing new materials for light emitting-diodes, with a focus on the emission of circularly polarised light. They use the synchrotron to better understand and optimise these materials.
