The Department of Computing Staff Recognition Awards recognise staff members who have made outstanding contributions above and beyond what is expected of them, that benefit the Department, its staff or its students, during the award period under consideration. The awards were organised every term from 2024 to 2025.


Award Winners, Autumn Term, Oct-Dec 2025

Gold: Damian Crease

Resolving new challenges in timetabling, including the JMC degree and oversubscribed modules. Verifying first-hand overflow room setups. Conducting timetabling modelling exercises, including for new JMC and White City spaces. Collaborating with EdTech and Imperial CTSO to deliver personalised CELCAT timetables for students for first time.

Silver: Tolga Birdal

Generosity in providing resources and expertise to the Department’s new GPU cluster, benefitting research beyond his own group.

Silver: Grazia Troiano

Outstanding health and wellbeing support for a high number of students including during December exams. Showing real pride in being on campus to support students and seeking out tutors and colleagues.

Bronze: Lucy Atthis

Ensuring continuity of research group activities while academic lead was on leave with professionalism and kindness.

Supporting MRes and PhD students to confidently settle in, proactively addressing challenges that may have led students to dropout.

Producing high-impact research and leadership at the intersection of neuroscience and computer science.

Leading key initiatives, including curriculum and space planning, new teaching titles and recruitment, with diligence and insight.

Exceptional support for PhD finance tasks including clearing backlogs, fixing system issues, cutting reimbursement times, improving PhD travel claims, quick pre-approvals for bursaries.

Silver: Guiliano Casale

Outstanding improvements to PhD admissions including building a new platform.

Silver: Jason Bailey

Pivotal in working with Central Timetabling and ICT to deliver personalised timetables for students.

Bronze: Amani El-Kholy

Outstanding emotional support for PhD students, including those that are at rock bottom.

Bronze: Maria Valera-Espina

Greatly enhancing both the academic progress and personal growth of students with timely interventions and empathy.

Providing trusted support and knowledgeable focal point during the transition to a new HoD and DOO.

Proactively addressing issues and improving usability of EdTech systems. Supporting team Y2 Summer Term projects, providing high-quality support on EdStem and group mentoring.

Achieving 100% placement despite a competitive job market. Completed 20+ tutor visits when academics were unable to.
