What really matters in research? What practices and behaviours lead to high quality? How can we recognise and incentivise the right things? These are some of the questions we’re asking in the Imperial-wide Beyond Open Research project on enhancing research culture.
Join our interactive workshops to discuss these questions and co-create practical solutions to the challenges we all face as we try to break out of the dysfunctional publish-or-perish culture. We can only do this with your involvement in the project activities:
- Monday 28 April, 9:30-15:30: Embedding Transparency and Quality in Research Data (Hammersmith campus)
- Thursday 5 June: Recognising and Incentivising Quality, Reliability and Team Science (Hammersmith campus)
- Thursday 10 July: Involving the Public in Fundamental and Discovery Research (The Invention Rooms, White City)
The Beyond Open Research project aims to foster a research culture that recognises and incentivises quality and reliability. The first stage of the project explored the challenges and opportunities of embedding transparency, scrutiny and integrity into the research data lifecycle (see our webpage). In 2025, the project is partnering with the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences to co-create a proof-of-concept. Over time, we hope to scale up our findings across Imperial.
Funded by Research England and led by Library Services with the support of Vice-Provost Mary Ryan, Beyond Open Research is a rare opportunity for the whole university community to come together and make a lasting difference. Research culture affects us all, and that’s why it’s important for you to be involved even if you have no experience of these discussions. Please apply for a place by filling in this form by next Tuesday, 15 April.
