RCDS Hackathon (21 October 2026)

Harness Engineering for Agentic Coding
ECRI Research Computing and Data Science Hackathon

21 October 10:00 – 17:00 at Imperial College London, South Kensington

Coding agents can now read a codebase, write and run tests, modify code, and open and review PRs. How well they do that depends partly on the model, but arguably more so on the harness: the instructions, tools, checks and external services around the agent.

At this year’s RCDS Hackathon, we’ll learn the ins and outs of harness engineering: tweaking GitHub Copilot to work for us and our research code. What we learn will transfer to other popular harnesses such as Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex.

We’ll have a few demos and a talk, and you’ll spend the rest of the time building useful customisations. Lunch will be provided.

If you’ve never worked with agents or a harness before, this is your opportunity to go beyond the chatbot!
