Featured Lab – The Thin Film Technology Lab

A Cathedral of technology.

This week I had the opportunity to shoot some new images in this amazing lab space in Bessemer.

Andrei Mihai surrounded by a fantastic Cathedral of shiny engineering. I’ve been very keen to get back into this lab since 2015 when we were here shooting a series of portraits for a social media campaign around women in engineering.

Dr Peter Petrov’s image here is one of my favourite portraits for a while, Peter really looks part of the machinery  and I love the reflections in his glasses.
Peter is one of the founders of the lab along with Professor Neil Alford, and claims that his lab has more equipment per square foot than any other laboratory in the College.
This is a hard claim to dispute, and moving it all to the new White City campus is going to be an extraordinary undertaking.

Matthew Wells is a 3rd yr PhD student, completely absorbed here in the second room of the lab studying alternative plasmonic materials.

So many wonderful shapes textures and forms to work around in this space.
