Reflections from former Imperial College Outreach Fellows:

Having been in the role of Imperial College Outreach Fellow at Oundle School for some time now, I can safely say it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Through the role, I have not only been able to work with pupils in a classroom setting, but also outside of it in the form of afterschool Science clubs or rocket car workshops. The versatility of the role is probably what I enjoy about it the most. In any day, I’d start off in the classroom but end the day in a school playground, watching mini rocket cars built by the students fire down the race track! Working with such enthusiastic pupils and sharing my passion for STEM with them is such an exhilarating and contagious feeling – one that I must admit, I have become rather addicted to! I am very grateful to be one of the ICLOF’s at the school, and eagerly look forward to upcoming projects this year.

Anudi Bandara, Aeronautical Engineer and Imperial College London Outreach Fellow at Oundle School, 2022-2024

Over the past year I have had the opportunity to teach in many different environments through this role, from Year 3 science lessons in the local primary school right up to extra Chemistry workshops for Upper Sixth pupils from nearby Secondary schools via the STEM Potential scheme in Oundle. It’s been great fun to lead my own after school science clubs as well, where I’ve seen rocket launches, egg drops, boat races and DIY lava lamps to name but a few. Having this freedom and the chance to enhance the education of motivated pupils has been a real highlight of my time so far.
