Professor Sir Huw Thomas made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order

Congratulations to Surgery and Cancer’s Professor Sir Huw Thomas, Head of the Medical Household and Physician to the Queen, who was made Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order at Windsor Castle by the Queen.

The monarch conferred the accolade on Professor Sir Huw Thomas, who is Head of the Medical Household and Physician to the Queen, in a private ceremony. The Royal Victorian Order award is in the Queen’s personal gift and is awarded for service to the royal family.

A Professor of Gastrointestinal Genetics in the Department since 2007, Professor Thomas research aims to define the inherited predispositions to colorectal cancer and refine the management of familial risk.

Alongside his research, Professor Sir Thomas was appointed in July 2014, as the Head of the Medical Household, the medical section of the Royal Household of the British monarch, and Physician to the Queen. Professor Sir Thomas was made a Knight Commander at the start of 2021 in the New Year’s Honours list.
