Professor James Sefton has accepted the appointment of Head of the Department of Finance at Imperial College Business School, with effect from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2028.
Professor Sefton joined Imperial in 2001 as Chair in Economics in the Department of Finance. He has been the Principal Investigator on the ESRC funded project ‘Changes in the Distribution of Resources across Generations in both the UK and the US’; Academic Director of both Investment and Wealth Management and Finance and Accounting MScs and Co-Director of the Financial Technology MSc.
Professor Sefton’s research agenda focuses on questions about intergenerational equity, pension policy design and long run trends in the housing market. As a quantitative finance researcher, he is interested in the design of both quantitative investment strategies and retirement investment products.
