Study, Food, Picture,…what else?

Hello…it has eventually come to my turn to write the weekly STRATiGRAD blog. To be honest, you will have to bear with me as I don’t blog but I will try my best!

I am Jutarop Phetcharaburanin, one of the first year STRATiGRAD students at the Department of Surgery and Cancer, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London. My PhD project focuses on the effect of bariatric (weight-loss) surgery on changes in gut microbiota and signalling molecules along with the impact of endotoxins on long-term cancer risks in post-bariatric surgery patients. I am considered “an absolute newcomer’ to the cutting-edge subject known as metabonimics over here. I am pretty sure that most of the forthcoming experiments are going to be exciting, challenging and hopefully fun to me and of course I am really looking forward to doing them. So far I am at the stage where I have been doing the extensive literature reviews, attending seminars and designing my experiments.

As you may know, doing a PhD is not a piece of cake. However, I (and perhaps the others as well) have been very thankful that there are lots of support from supervisors, postdocs and admins, laugh and memorable time with friends and world-class facilities provided by the department along the PhD journey here at Imperial College. Hopefully, everyone would feel like “there’s a light at the end of the tunnel” and I would personally continue that proverb by saying “since we have seen the light, we need to keep walking with our two legs until we get there!”

London is one of the must-visit cities and so called “capital city” of the world!! It would be so much shameful if I were not going to explore it while studying here. Out of study, I love to spend my free time (which is unlikely to have) on sightseeing and taking pictures of beautiful perspectives around London. In addition to photography, cooking is another favourite activity as can be seen from the pictures below (I hope they are not making you hungry!).

Every story has an end and this is the last paragraph of my post. I would like to thank all of STRATiGRAD friends for their nice and warm welcome. I will tell you more about my experiments next time when it comes to my turn again. Positively speaking, I will hopefully have some good results to write about by then!

Have a nice and productive week guys 🙂

Jutarop
