Professor Mary Ryan has accepted appointment as Vice-Provost (Research and Enterprise) with effect from 1 August 2022 for a term of office of five years. Professor Ryan is currently Interim Vice-Provost (Research and Enterprise), a role she has held since 1 September 2021.
Reporting to the Provost and working closely and collaboratively with key colleagues, in this role Professor Ryan is responsible for providing strategic leadership and coordination of Imperial’s Research and Impact portfolio across the College and for enhancing the delivery of our research and its translation for the benefit of society.
Professor Ryan first joined Imperial in 1998 as a lecturer, and she was promoted to Professor of Materials Science and Nanotechnology in 2012. She also holds the Armourers and Brasiers’ Chair in Materials Science. Professor Ryan’s other current roles include College Champion for Transition to Zero Pollution, Director of the Imperial-Shell University Technology Centre for Advanced Interfacial Materials Science, and Chair of the Forum Advisory Group.
Professor Ryan was elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2015 and was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours in June 2022, for services to education and to materials science and engineering. Her research spans diverse areas including energy materials, nanomaterials for biosensors and therapies.
