Professor Peter Haynes has accepted appointment as Interim Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience) with effect from 1 October 2022 for a period of up to one year, or until the permanent Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience) is identified and takes up the post.
Reporting to the Provost and working closely and collaboratively with key colleagues, in this role Professor Haynes will be responsible for leading the delivery of the College’s strategic aims for the provision of a of high-quality education and delivering an exceptional student experience. He will be responsible for enhancing the quality, impact, coordination and delivery of education at the College.
Professor Haynes joined Imperial in 2007 as a reader and was promoted to Professor of Theory and Simulation of Materials in 2012. He has been Head of the Department of Materials since 2015, a role he will step down from when he takes up the Interim Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience) role. Professor Haynes was previously Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Theory and Simulation of Materials and is currently the Director of the College’s Centre of Excellence and associated academic strategy project in Quantum Engineering, Science and Technology.
Professor Haynes’s research interests include the development of new computational methods for performing first-principles electronic structure calculations and their application to materials at the nanoscale. More recently his interests have expanded to include methods for simulating molecules and materials on emerging quantum computers. He was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2021.
