Professor Michele Dougherty FRS has accepted an extension to her term as Head of the Department of Physics for a further two years, until 31 December 2024.
Professor Dougherty joined the College in 1991 as a postdoctoral research assistant, and was appointed Professor of Space Physics in 2004. She has been Head of the Department of Physics since 2018.
Professor Dougherty’s research focuses on planetary magnetospheres, particularly those of Jupiter and Saturn, and solar wind interaction with planetary bodies. She was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 2012 and was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2018 New Year Honours for services to UK physical science research.
