Professor Robert Shorten has accepted appointment as Head of the Dyson School of Design Engineering for a term of five years, starting from 1 August 2023.
Professor Shorten joined the College in 2019 as Chair in Cyber Physical Systems Design at the Dyson School of Design Engineering, and he is currently deputy head of the department. Prior to joining Imperial, Professor Shorten was Professor of Decision Science and Control Theory at University College Dublin, and before that worked at IBM Research.
His research interests include stability theory, congestion control, smart cities and smart mobility, the design of cyber-physical systems, and the design of sharing and circular economy systems.
