Dean of the Faculty of Engineering

Professor Omar Matar has accepted appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, with effect from 1 October 2026 for a fixed term of five years. 

Reporting to the Provost and Deputy President, in this role Professor Matar will be responsible for all aspects of the Faculty’s strategy, operations and finances. As a senior member of the University Management Board, he will also make a significant contribution to the strategic direction, management and development of Imperial as a whole. 

Professor Matar will be stepping down from his current role as Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and the search for a new Head of Department will commence shortly.  

As previously announced, Professor Nigel Brandon is taking up a new role as Vice-President (Corporate Engagement) in October 2026.
