Professor Stefanos Zafeiriou has accepted the appointment as Head of the Department of Computing for a five year term, starting from 1 September 2025.
Dr Elena Dieckmann and Professor Sanjeev Gupta have accepted the appointment of Academic Co-Director for Imperial Global India, with effect from 1 March 2025 for a term of three years. This is a 0.2 FTE role.
Reporting to the Vice-President (Strategic Engagement), the Academic Co-Directors will provide strategic vision, direction and leadership to the hub.
Dr Ana Costa-Pereira has accepted a three-year extension to her term as Director of the Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication (CLCC) from 1 July 2025.
Reporting to the Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience), in this role Dr Costa-Pereira is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for an exciting range of provision designed to broaden Imperial students’ perspectives, give new context to their disciplinary knowledge and allow them to share their expertise for the benefit of society. Focusing on humanities, languages, change makers, and science communication, some of these programmes are also open to staff and members of the public.
Heather Haseley has been appointed Managing Director for the Institute of Extended Learning (IEL) and will join Imperial on Wednesday 23 April.
Reporting to the Associate Provost (Digital Lifelong Learning) and the Registrar and University Secretary, in this role Heather will have overall responsibility for the management of the IEL, working closely with colleagues across Imperial to shape and deliver our ambitious vision.
Professor Majid Ezzati has accepted appointment as Academic Director for Imperial Global Ghana, with effect from 1 November 2024 for a term of three years. This is a 0.2 FTE role.
Reporting to the Vice-President (Strategic Engagement), in this role Professor Ezzati will provide strategic vision, direction and leadership to the hub.
Professor Ezzati is Professor of Global Environmental Health in the School of Public Health. He is also the Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre on NCD Surveillance, Epidemiology and Modelling, and a research lead at the Abdul Latif Jameel Institute for Disease and Emergency Analytics. His research uses data and methods from environmental, health and quantitative sciences to answer key questions related to improving global health.
Professor Alison Holmes OBE FMedSci has accepted appointment as the inaugural Director of the Fleming Initiative, with effect from 1 October 2024.
A partnership between Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, the Fleming Initiative is focused on driving solutions to antimicrobial resistance that are co-designed with patients, the public, and policy makers and underpinned by a rich and diverse evidence base.
Professor Phillip Bennett has accepted the role of Acting Head of the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction in the Faculty of Medicine, with effect from 1 October 2024. Professor Bennett will continue in this role until a new postholder is identified and appointed. This is to replace our current Head of the Department, Professor Mark Thursz who has been appointed as Director of the Academic Health Science Centre.
Professor Bennett has been Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 1995, after joining RPMS (Royal Postgraduate Medical School) in 1988 as a Senior Clinical Research Fellow, which later became Imperial. He was formerly the Director of the Institute of Reproductive and Developmental Biology. He also directs (together with David MacIntyre and Lynne Sykes) the March of Dimes European Preterm Birth Research Centre at Imperial and (together with Tom Bourne) the Tommy’s National Miscarriage Research Centre at Imperial.
Professor Bennett’s principal research interests are the microbiology, biochemistry and endocrinology of pregnancy, human term and preterm labour, and the stratification, prediction and prevention of miscarriage and preterm birth.
Professor Bennett was elected Fellow of Academy of Medical Sciences in 2017; Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London, UK, in 2000; Honorary Fellow Maltese College Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2006; Honorary Fellow American Gynecologic and Obstetrical Society in 2018.
