Promotions

We are pleased to announce that the following staff were successful during the promotions rounds.

Academic promotions take place on an annual cycle, with promotions taking effect from 1 September 2022. Learning and Teaching promotions take place three times each year, and have taken effect on 1 October 2021, 1 January 2022 or 1 June 2022.

Interim Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience)

Professor Peter Haynes has accepted appointment as Interim Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience) with effect from 1 October 2022 for a period of up to one year, or until the permanent Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience) is identified and takes up the post. 

Reporting to the Provost and working closely and collaboratively with key colleagues, in this role Professor Haynes will be responsible for leading the delivery of the College’s strategic aims for the provision of a of high-quality education and delivering an exceptional student experience. He will be responsible for enhancing the quality, impact, coordination and delivery of education at the College.

Vice-Provost (Research and Enterprise)  

Professor Mary Ryan has accepted appointment as Vice-Provost (Research and Enterprise) with effect from 1 August 2022 for a term of office of five years. Professor Ryan is currently Interim Vice-Provost (Research and Enterprise), a role she has held since 1 September 2021. 

Reporting to the Provost and working closely and collaboratively with key colleagues, in this role Professor Ryan is responsible for providing strategic leadership and coordination of Imperial’s Research and Impact portfolio across the College and for enhancing the delivery of our research and its translation for the benefit of society.

Heads of Department at Imperial College Business School

Head of the Department of Analytics, Marketing and Operations 

Professor Wolfram Wiesemann has accepted appointment as Head of the Department of Analytics, Marketing and Operations at Imperial College Business School with effect from 1 September 2022, for a three-year term. Professor Wiesemann will succeed Professor Andreas Eisingerich, who has extended his term as Head of the Department until 31 August 2022.  

Professor Wiesemann joined Imperial in 2010 as a research assistant in the Department of Computing. He moved to the Business School in 2013 as an assistant professor and was promoted to Professor of Analytics and Operations in 2019. He is currently the Academic Director of the School’s MSc Business Analytics (on-campus) programme, a role he will step down from when he takes up the role of Head of Department.  

Professor Wiesemann’s research focuses on models and algorithms for decision-making under uncertainty, applying to operations management, energy systems and financial engineering. 

  

Head of the Department of Economics and Public Policy 

Professor Tommaso Valletti has accepted an extension to his appointment as Head of the Department of Economics and Public Policy at Imperial College Business School until 31 July 2023. 

Professor Valletti was previously the Director of the PhD Programme at the Business School. He served as Chief Competition Economist of the European Commission (Directorate General for Competition). He is a Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research, as well as a member of the CMA’s academic advisory panel. He is a Non-Executive Director to the board of the Financial Conduct Authority.  

Professor Valletti’s main research interests are in industrial economics, regulation, and competition economics.

The President’s Awards for Excellence are annual awards to recognise staff members who have made outstanding contributions in Culture and Community, Education, Research, or Societal Engagement. 

The President’s Awards for Excellence in Societal Engagement recognise and reward staff, students and community partners who have delivered excellence in schools engagement, community engagement, engagement with research and/or patient engagement.
