The Stratigrad Tradition!!!

I guess it’s my turn again. :). The last few weeks have been packed with a lot of exciting moments. First of all, I passed my ESA which means I am officially in year two. I would like to use this opportunity to thank anyone who had a part to play in this, Dr. Hector Keun, Prof. Bob Brown, Dr. Anisha Wijeyesekera and of course all the other stratigrads who had to listen to me talk about Otto Warburg like a million times 😉 . Thanks!!!

I also joined Prof. Brown’s group to go on a lab retreat to Cornwall over a weekend. I signed up for this wonderful trip not knowing how far Cornwall was from London. I only realised it was a 5-6 hour journey on Friday morning, the departure day. The journey was very enjoyable. We even went by Stonehenge which was great (btw, in real life it looks much smaller). The beaches in Cornwall are amazing. We also did a lot of idea generation during the retreat which was very fruitful and arrived back Sunday evening. I loved it!!!

The new stratigrads have also arrived…they seem to enjoy it so far!!! We had a gathering to usher them into the department which involved drinks, sweets, cupcakes (of course from Anisha, they were really good as usual). it was The day before Fran’s birthday so she had a pink birthdaycake on that day, she was so excited lool. We also went for some drinks afterwards in a Pub. Unknowingly we all (including new stratigrads) ended up in the first pub we went to when we first joined the department. I guess a tradition has been born for any new stratigrads!!!

Well, I need get on with some lab work before the departmental meeting 13:30 where 2 members of the section present their work. Exciting!! Ok…. Until then Tschüss!!!

P.S. I am still working on some pictures and videos (from all these events) that I may put on my next blog, so stay tuned 🙂
