Consultancy, Baby!

So now we’re on to the most exciting part of the programme – Consulting! Real companies, suits and boots and a whole lot of competitive bidding action. This year, we have been provided with briefs from a range of different companies varying in size, geographical location and industry. The big trade-off our group meetings were centred around is whether to go for the prestigious brands or the smaller start-ups, given that the former could provide a great CV boost, whereas the latter could involve campaigns that have a much bigger impact on the chosen business’s performance. But the key is to really understand which skills of the team as a whole are best suited to the projects on offer.

# Harlem Shake meme

Harlem Shake has become meme #1 just in a few days, and I really think that this meme is one of the best ever. It’s not only about fun, but smartness and creativity. I suggest memes in the future will has a huge impact on different social processes, and it’s a great topic for a digital marketing research.

Meanwhile, some great videos from Imperial students:

Finding your balance … Mind the Gap!

Hi all, First of all, my sincerest apologies for posting after such a long time…. procrastination got the better of me! I hope 2013 is off to a wonderful start for you all! Second semester, the first half has flown by… I can’t believe it! 5 weeks since exams ended… Which I realise, I didn’t even tell you about …. So will do a quick note on the exams. In short, 5 days, 5 exams …back to back! Hell. ‘Nuff said. No but seriously, would strongly recommend keeping on top of your notes and reading if possible because I found it significantly easier to revise for the exams I had done this for, than those that I hadn’t.

First round finished, ready for the second!

Back again! It’s been a hard term but we finished the first term exams last Friday and we can breathe again. Well, really not for a long time, it seems!

Next year students might be interested in knowing that we had the first term exams just after the break. We had three entire weeks for revisions (last two of December and the first of January) and then… 5 exams in a row! As I did, you might want to go back home on holidays so, my recommendation, start working hard and studying from the very beginning of the course, otherwise you will not be able to enjoy your “deserved” holidays.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hey Everyone!

Sorry for the late post! I meant to write to you all a week ago but got caught up having fun at home, in New Delhi, India! 🙂

Well, let me warn you, from experience, the winter break is super hectic – with balancing family, friends and revisions!

But never mind that, I am sure we will all find our own way of doing it right.

I just want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year – may 2013 bring you all your desires and more <3

And to sum it up, the Avanti-way:

“Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.”

The experiment has begun …

I can hardly believe it but the 10 incredibly busy weeks which constituted our first term at Imperial are actually over! Yet, that doesn’t imply that the busy weeks are over, too! On the contrary – I am not yet sure which part will prove to be busier: the 10 weeks during term ot the 3 weeks after –  until our exams at the beginning of January! Which just leaves me with one question: how much can one possibly read (and memorise) in three weeks time? Our core readings (not to mention the additional readings) in conjunction with the extensive lecture slides exceed everything I’ve experienced before – at least within such a narrow timeframe.

Applying mgmt to life in gens!

This post of mine won’t give you immense insight into my day-to-day life at the Business school but will give you a glimpse into the amazingly awesome education that we receive on the International Health Management course at Imperial College Business School. Here are the top three pieces of wisdom from the modules:

Accounting:

  • The Rule of One: Some things, cannot be reduced below one… deal with it!
  • The Will Sutton Rule: Will Sutton was a bank robber and during his forty-year criminal career he stole an estimated $2 million and eventually spent more than half of his adult life in prison.

a bit late to the party

23 hours of flight time, four inflight movies, two Bloody Marys, and five questionably edible economy class meals is what it takes to get from Middle Earth to the Old Smoke.  Me being excited about getting off the plane as we land on the Heathrow runway is probably an understatement. Not only was my back sore, but I was beginning to think that my seat had permanently contorted the shape of my backside.

I quickly make my way through customs and out of the airport. As I walked around like a headless chicken looking for anything that marginally resembled a shuttle or taxi, I had my first opportunity to soak in the atmosphere.

Time’s running

It’s time for a brief recap of the last two weeks! I don’t even know where to start as time is just running by and the workload is getting even heavier!

Last week, we had to hand in four group assignments: Marketing & Business Strategy Fundamentals, Consumer Behaviour, Technology in Marketing and Branding.
