Finding your balance … Mind the Gap!

Hi all, First of all, my sincerest apologies for posting after such a long time…. procrastination got the better of me! I hope 2013 is off to a wonderful start for you all! Second semester, the first half has flown by… I can’t believe it! 5 weeks since exams ended… Which I realise, I didn’t even tell you about …. So will do a quick note on the exams. In short, 5 days, 5 exams …back to back! Hell. ‘Nuff said. No but seriously, would strongly recommend keeping on top of your notes and reading if possible because I found it significantly easier to revise for the exams I had done this for, than those that I hadn’t.

Study Galore

First of all, I hope you all had a great start of the new year! My NYE celebration was magnificent, the idea of having to study on the day afterwards a bit less though.. Anyway, on the 4th of January I had to leave the lovely Netherlands again to go back to London for a final weekend of studying before the exams. After that one weekend, of which you will probably spend half talking to class mates on the phone about how crazy much work you have done and/or still need to do, it is time for the exams… The first day can be terrifying, since you don’t know what to expect, luckily my best friend from Amsterdam sent me lucky socks (see photo), hahaha!

Merry Christmas from Amsterdam!

Hi all,

Just a short post to wish you all a happy Christmas from Amsterdam. I hope that you all have had a wonderful Christmas eve; unfortunately, we had no snow here on Christmas eve, just rain.. Anyway, if you are applying for Imperial, be prepared that your Christmas break will be filled with studying. Seriously. Studying is what you will do during your break. Of course you’ll have (to make) time to meet up with some friends and see your family etcetera, but don’t expect to be chilling next to the Christmas tree and not think of your course work at all, haha!

Visiting Synergy Health

When you arrive at Imperial College, you will immediately notice that there is much more to do than just follow lectures related to your studies. There are many social events, but also a wide range of formal events. The Imperial College Business School organises, for example, employer events on weeknights during which various companies give talks on their company or business they are involved in or on topics related to their business/company. For students of the Business School this is a great opportunity to gain more insight in the business world and to learn a bit more about possible future employers.

The Art of Perseverance

It has been two weeks since I last put pen to paper regarding my thoughts about the course and the lapse in time is solely due to the ‘hecticness’ of the RMFE course. Mid-November has seen work load increase dramatically having approximately 2 coursework’s due every 10 days (with some projects reaching up to 3000 words excluding Excel calculations) however these are generally team projects which helps lighten the pressure. Exams are a mere 3 weeks away and I still haven’t had time to revise yet- definitely worrying times. On a lighter note, Arsenal did thrash Spurs 5-2 over the weekend, so those 90 minutes definitely allowed me to forget my work responsibilities and relax!

Halfway!

As you can read on the other posts, yes, we’re halfway the first term! It’s been busy, very busy, but challenging and motivating too. We started with Accounting, Health Informatics and Marketing. Accounting is probably the toughest subject for those who, like me, have never studied anything related to economics or finance. But, even if you have to work hard to be up to date, the teaching system is well designed so that at the end of the course you feel that you have really made the most of it.

So we’ve worked a lot! Individually but also in syndicate groups.

…and so it begins!

As far as introductions go, my name’s Muniba (known by most as Mia), and as per my Twitter tagline (yep, straight into the social media like a true Marketer), I come from a family where gravy is considered a beverage. No word of a lie. Born and brought up in Pakistan, I moved to the UK back in 2007 for my undergraduate degree in Business Management and Marketing at Cardiff University, followed by two years of the 9-5 in Copywriting and SEO at an internet marketing company, marketing and media campaigns for a tennis club as part of the Lawn Tennis Association, and most recently, I was working on property projects at the law giant Eversheds LLP in the renewable energy and equity release sector.

Whoohoo Whoohoo Evacuate the Dancefl-eh-Library!

The fire alarm went off in the library this morning, meaning we all had to leave the building and wait outside until the situation was resolved. It is incredible how many people are already at the Imperial library around 11am as you can see on the pictures.

Think about your future!

Hi to all prospective students! My name is Ion Agirrezabal, I am Basque, 27 years old, and I am currently studying MSc International Health Management at Imperial College Business School. My background is scientific: I studied biochemistry and then worked for more than 4 years (first in a research laboratory and then in a pharmaceutical company) until I arrived here in London a few weeks ago. However, my trip to London started a long time ago doing what you are doing right now: looking for information and feeling a little bit lost and overwhelmed. But don’t panic! It takes time to gather information, read, evaluate and make a decision.

Delay. Delay, what are you doing? Delay. Stahp!

As you can probably guess from the title above, my flight from to London did not go as smooth as planned. After arriving at the airport, I spotted several flight delay notifications on the screens. At first, only the flight prior to mine was delayed, which made me laugh silently at the people on that flight, since my flight would now probably leave before their flight. But, of course, karma must have heard this silent laughter and in the end my flight was delayed for two hours, due to weather circumstances in London (which is very comforting thought if you don’t like rain, ahem…).
