On the 22 October 1980 edition of STOIC’s News-Break, Mike Prosser reported on a concrete canoe being built. Mike Rowley from Civil Engineering explained that they had previously entered a yearly competition at Thorpe Park. The year before this report, they had won the Construction Prize. The next event was planned for June 1981.
Jump forward to 1985, and Felix reported that the team for that year had scooped most of the prizes, so they must have been doing something right after Mike Rowley handed over to others.
